Childrens Health: Secrets Uncovered

Today, childrens health has become news worthy. You hear the media portray obesity, diabetes and sedentary lifestyles as major problems with our children.

You, undoubtedly, want the best for your kids. But where do you start?

Diet!

Yes, you've heard it before. To really get an understanding of that statement and all it covers, let me explain...

Your diet is the source of nutrients that the body needs to function. The nutrients are used right down to the cellular level of every body system. When you and your kids get the nutrients you need, the body can function at an optimal level. When kids get the nutrients they need they will have the energy to play.

Ok, you feed your kids. So how is it that they could be missing nutrients?

The answer is processed food. Processing food causes a loss of nutrients. In some cases they are just totally stripped out during processing. These nutrients then have to be replaced, as does the loss of taste. To 'fix' this problem, additives are added. Food additives number in the thousands, the majority of which are man made chemicals.

Let's take a look at some of the common additives that demonstrate an an ability to cause weight gain.

First, there is monosodium glutamte (msg). We often recognize that this is a popular additive in Asian food. But, it not limited to these restaurants. When eating out, ask for no msg. It is also used in abundance in processed foods.

This is a man made chemical and does not have the same effect on the body as the naturally occurring type. You should avoid msg.

Then moving on...

There is aspartame. An artificial sweetener. This additive has weight gain as one of the 92 possible side effects. Just think of that for a second. Ninety-two possible side effects as reported to the FDA.

Earlier I stated that nutrients enhance the body's functions. Chemicals do not. In fact, a chemical acts to alter the body's function. If it did not, it would be called a nutrient-would it not? Man made chemicals are foreign to the body and in no way act like food act.

High Fructose corn syrup (HFCS) came on the scene during the 1970's as a solution to the high sugar prices. This is not a natural ingredient. It is man made through major processing. This ingredient can be found in even such things as spaghetti sauce. Avoid this ingredient.

Hydrogenated oils are also man made. They provide a longer self life for manufacturer's products. But, they most definitely don't provide you with a longer shelf life.

These fats have none of the essential fatty acids you need. And even more importantly perhaps is that they inhibit absorption of nutrients. So, with this the body feels it is starving and wants to eat. Overeating is a side effect.

What you eat and what your kids eat is a diet. Quite possibly the greatest thing you can do for your childrens health is to eliminate processed food from their diet.

Alright, how would you do this without causing a mutiny?

Steps To Take

1. Start in you kitchen. Check what processed foods you now use.

2. Don't by anymore of the processed foods you now have.

3. Section targetingBuy organic foods whenever you can.

4. Buy fresh fruits and vegetables.

5. Know that organic processed food is still processed. The least alteration done to food would provide the most benefit from the food.

6. Talk to your kids about the changes and get their input.

7. Replace soda pop with juice, fruit tea or water.

Getting your kids involved will greatly influence your success. After all, how likely are you to agree to something under force? Just by taking a sensible approach to the changes you will see results in your childrens health. And putting your kids on the path to lifelong health may just be your greatest reward.
